Though it has been discussed last year but due to the ongoing Sim registration, they have to delay it for some time because without  the Sim card registration been completed the service cannot hold.

The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC)  has set a dead line that the national mobile number portability services lunching will be coming up on march 26 2013.

The US-based Telcordia technologies and Interconnect Clearinghouse Nigeria (ICN) are the two companies that  bid to be in charge of the mobile number portability but they have not yet been publicly announced.

How Does Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Works?

This services allow you to interchange your phone number (I.e 080xxxxxxxx) from one services provider (e.g MTN) to another services provider (e.g AIRTEL) without
you loosing the phone number. This means that after you interchange, your phone number will not change.

How do I apply for Mobile Number Portability?

1. Meet with any of the two companies highlighted above.

2. A form will be issued to you which you will need to fill in the data required.

Note: while filling this form, you will come across some of this terminologies which you need to know such as;

1. PORT OUT; To leave the services provider.

2. PORT IN; To accept a new services provider.

3. SUBSCRIBER; The customer that owns the number to be ported.

4. DONOR; The services provider a subscriber is changing from.

All what have been saying is that if you want to change from MTN to GLO, that means that you are porting out from MTN and porting to GLO but you will still be using the same number but with another service provider.
